Overview:
Day 1 – Cusco – Abra Malaga – Santa Maria- Santa Teresa
Day 2 – Thermal Baths of Cocalmayo – To Colcalmayo
Day 3 – Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
The expedition will start at 7:00am when the adventurers are picked up and driven through the beautiful Sacred Valley and dropped off at Abra Malaga. Here the inca jungle travelers will change into the attire provided by us (gloves, elbow pads, knee pads, helmets), and will be briefed for 25 minutes by our tour guide. Finally, the fun and adventure starts. We begin by biking down challenging roads and passing by different levels of the ecosystem, including: the cloud forest and ice capped mountains. After three hours we will arrive at Huaman Marca to have lunch and then a van will take you to Santa Maria (optional rafting in Santa Maria $30 USD). We will then start our exciting journey of rafting down the Vilcanota Sacred River for 2 hours. We will then go to Santa Teresa where we will have dinner and spend our first night in a local family house and Dorms.
On this day you will have the choice of either walking from Santa Teresa to Aguas Calientes (11 km) or you can do a zip line tour in the morning and walk the final 7 kM to Aguas Calientes, (optional zip line in Santa Teresa $30 USD) The group will then meet up in Hydroelectric station to have lunch and then we will talk 3 hours along the train tracks to Aguas Calientes. We will sleep in a hostel and get a briefing about the guided tour to Machu Picchu for the following day. You also have the option to visit the Aguas Calientes Hot Spring (20 soles).
Machu Picchu (visit to the Inca Citadel) At 4:30am we will start our hike up to the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu. We will start by taking the bus road for about 25 minutes and then take a short trail that will go up to Machu Picchu. We will have the amazing opportunity of seeing the sun rise after registration at the main entrance of Machu Picchu, which opens at 6:00am. As soon as well enter, the guide will take us back in history to when the Inca’s ruled the mountain. The guided tour is about 2 hours and you may have up to 3 hours of extra free time before your train arrives. You will also notice an abundance of llamas roaming around. If your are interested in Huayna Picchu or Machu picchu Mountain, please plan that with us ahead of time after you return to Aguas Calientes or hidrolectric to take a train or bus back to cusco
