Manu Tours 3 Days: Manu National Park is recognized as one of the most biodiverse places on Earth and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is home to an incredible variety of flora and fauna, including numerous endangered species. The park has more than 15,000 species of plants, including orchids, bromeliads, and giant ferns. In addition, it provides habitat for more than 1,000 species of birds, 200 species of mammals, and some 13,000 species of insects.Some of the iconic species of wildlife found in the Manu National Park include jaguars, giant river otters, tapirs, macaws, harpy eagles, and capuchin monkeys. The park’s diverse habitats span cloud forest, montane forest, lowland rainforest, and meandering lakes, providing a unique variety of ecosystems to explore.It is important to note that, as a protected area, the Manu National Park has strict regulations to preserve its fragile ecosystems.
While the full Manu experience typically requires more time, here is an itinerary for a 3-day tour that gives you a glimpse of this remarkable natural wonder.
We´ll depart from Cusco in our private expedition van, and drive all day through the Andes. The bus stops frequently during the trip, to permit short visits to small Andean towns the colonial village of Paucartambo, here you will have a short walk around the town and the guide will explain you about the town custom. Then, we will climb up to 3,600 meters, then drive into the Manu Reserve. Here is where the exploration of the incredible range of cloud forest habitats, with different species of plants, animals and birds, starts. We will be able to see orchids, primitive ferns, etc., and wildlife, such as our national bird, the cock of the rock, and hopefully, the wooly monkey. In the evening we will arrive to Pilcopata, where we will stay in a paradise lodge. Showers and toilets available: Lunch and Dinner.
After a comfortable night sleep in our Lodge,We will continue in our private car until we reach the Atalaya port. There our motorised boat awaits us where it will take us to the next lodge, then, 3-hour walk, to explore the deepest jungle. Here, we will have the opportunity to see many medicinal plants, which are used for all imaginable cures, by the local people. If we are lucky, we will also be able to spot some big animals, as the Ant-eaters, etc. Back in the lodge, after lunch, we will have the opportunity to choose to go for a refreshing swim in the river, or a comfortable bath in the lodge. After some good relaxation, we will go for a trip over the lake, with a big wooden raft. Around us, you will be able to see birds in transit. We will be back at the lodge before dinner. Optional night walk (to see caiman ). Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Very early in the morning, we will have a boat ride 15 minutes down the river to the parrot clay lick to observe loudly screaming green parrots, where many different species of parrots, parakeets and some macaws give a colourful show. After returning to the parrot clay lick, your guide is available to further explain about the forest. After all this, we will take our motorised boat back to the lodge. After breakfast, we will return to Atalaya by boat where our private bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. We will return to Cusco via the cloud forest and Paucartambo. We will arrive back in Cusco in the late afternoon.
