FAQ SALKANTAY

Here we clear your doubts

What is the minimum age for the Salkantay Trek?

  • The minimum age is around 12 to 14 years old to participate in the trek. This is because the Salkantay Trek involves walking significant distances, facing altitude changes, and navigating varied terrains, which can be challenging for younger children. The altitude and physical demands of the ascent to Salkantay Pass are important factors to consider when determining the minimum age. Younger children may have more difficulty acclimating to the altitude and handling the required physical effort.

How is the weather on the Salkantay Trek?

  • The weather varies, from warm temperatures in lower areas to colder temperatures at higher altitudes. It’s important to prepare for diverse conditions.

What type of accommodation can I expect during the trek? During the first two nights of the journey, you will enjoy accommodations in camps that provide basic facilities, such as cabins and igloos. On the third night, you will experience a higher level of comfort by staying in a hotel in Aguas Calientes, where you will have access to rooms with private amenities, including exclusive bathrooms.

What meals are provided during the trek?

  • Meals during the trek typically include breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. Vegetarian and vegan options are available upon request at no additional cost. It’s important to communicate any dietary restrictions or preferences before the trip to ensure your needs are properly addressed. Additionally, note that due to mountain conditions and logistics, options may be more limited compared to urban settings. However, guides and staff strive to provide nutritious and delicious meals to sustain hikers during the journey.

Is it possible to rent trekking equipment?

  • Yes, you can rent trekking equipment such as sleeping bags and trekking poles. Andes Peru Expeditions facilitates the rental of these items, with prices typically around $10 USD for a sleeping bag and $10 USD for a pair of trekking poles for the entire trek.
